11th arrest made in connection to deadly SC State homecoming shooting

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a man in connection with a shooting that occurred at South Carolina State University’s homecoming in October 2025.
Deon David Savage, 19, is charged with possession of a firearm on school property, breach of peace aggravated in nature, and pointing a firearm at a person, according to SLED.
Authorities said the charges stem from an investigation into two shootings that occurred the evening of Oct. 4, 2025, on the university’s campus. One of the shootings left a woman dead.
According to arrest warrants, Savage allegedly had a gun in the parking lot outside Hugine Suites at 300 College Ave. and fired the weapon into a crowd. Investigators said the allegations are supported by witness statements, physical evidence collected at the scene, and video footage.
Savage is the third person arrested so far who is confirmed to have fired shots during the incident.
The first,18-year-old Matthew McCoy, allegedly shot twice at an unidentified male wearing a black and red hoodie. Darrell Lee Goss Jr. allegedly pointed a gun and fired “into a crowd of persons” in front of Hugine Suites. He was charged on May 27 with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, carrying or displaying a firearm on school property, and breach of peace aggravated in nature.
Savage’s arrest brings the total number of those arrested in connection with the shooting to 11.
He was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center.
SLED said the investigation into both shootings remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 866-472-8477 or email tips@sled.sc.gov.
