Viral video shows firefighters rescuing a distressed pigeon

OAKLAND, Calif. (CNN) - A feathered friend got a little help from authorities in Oakland, California.

Shortly after putting out a vehicle fire on Wednesday, Oakland Firefighters Local 55 said that a pigeon in distress approached firefighters.

In a social media post, officials said the bird appeared to have suffered smoke inhalation from the vehicle blaze.

Firefighters provided oxygen to the pigeon, and shortly afterward the bird flew away, presumably breathing a little easier.

A video of the rescue has gone viral.
