Vigil marks 4 months since Heather Elvis disappeared

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Today marks four months since Heather Elvis was reported missing. The search for the 20-year-old launched an aggressive investigation, landing a local couple behind bars accused of kidnapping and murdering her.

However, Heather has still not been found.

Dozens gathered at Peachtree Landing to honor her this afternoon. While the landing is where investigators believe Heather was murdered, the community is determined to make the area a peaceful spot to sit and remember her.

The vigil began with words from the Elvis family's pastor, the first prayer led by a small child. Heather's little sister, Morgan, spoke to the crowd, thanking them for their support. She talked about the beautiful gardens recently planted at the landing, and mentioned how much Heather would like it.

Morgan also shared a lesson she learned from her older sister, that missing someone was your hearts way of saying ‘I love you.' While Heather is at the heart of today's vigil, organizers say it was a way to shine light on all the missing persons cases in Horry County.

"This isn't for Heather alone. But Heather in a sense, represents a lot of people missing in our community," said Morgan Maney, a missing persons advocate and organizer of the event.

The community hopes to hold similar vigils on the 18th of every month.
