Arrest made in 2024 Georgetown County shooting initially ruled under ‘Stand Your Ground’ law
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An Arrest was made after new information in a Georgetown County shooting investigation originally ruled under the “Stand Your Ground” law.
Deputies with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Saul Epps, 25, of Williamsburg County on Monday regarding a 2024 shooting.

Epps is being charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Jamar McClary, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies say that the shooting took place in April of 2024 during an argument at the Arbor Place Apartments on North Beech Avenue in Andrews.
The shooting initially appeared to fall under the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law. Investigators obtained new information that led to enough probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Epps, the sheriff’s office said.
Sheriff Carter Weaver said, “This demonstrates how a criminal case can change from a ‘Stand Your Ground’ finding to a murder case when investigators practice due diligence, and there is strong cooperation from witnesses and other members of the community.”
Epps is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing on Tuesday.
