TULLOS, La. (KALB/Gray News) - Authorities in Louisiana say a man in the country illegally is facing charges for assaulting a law enforcement officer following an arrest in Tullos.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Maximiliano Perez-Perez attempted to escape officers during his arrest, leading to him biting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.

DHS noted that Perez had entered the U.S. at an unknown date and time and without being inspected or paroled by an immigration officer.

“This criminal illegal alien is being charged with assault after he savagely bit a law enforcement officer in an attempt to evade arrest,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “DHS law enforcement is facing a 1,150% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats.”

The ICE agent received treatment for the wound.

“This is the reality of what our ICE officers are facing every day as they go to work to simply do their job and enforce the law,” McLaughlin said.

No further information was immediately released.
