Bank teller accused of embezzling more than $40,000 from customers
HONOLULU (KHNL/Gray News) - A woman who previously worked for a bank in Hawaii has been arrested on several fraud and theft charges.
Alohi Kaupu-Grace, 24, is accused of stealing money from multiple customers’ financial accounts, including two elderly alleged victims.
Authorities said Kaupu-Grace worked as a bank teller at the Bank of Hawaii and was indicted for allegedly embezzling more than $40,000 from customers.
According to court documents, she reportedly made 13 unauthorized withdrawals using company technology, worth about $44,000.
The 24-year-old is charged with three counts of first-degree computer fraud, three counts of first-degree theft, one count of second-degree computer fraud and one count of second-degree theft.
A Hawaii County Grand Jury issued the indictment on Dec. 1, and court records show the alleged offenses occurred between February and March 2024.
A bench warrant was issued for Kaupu-Grace on Dec. 2. She was ordered to appear in court on Friday, with court records showing a jury trial is scheduled for April 2026.
The court has issued a no-contact order to protect seven individuals.
Kaupu-Grace is also facing charges in two other Hawaii County Cases filed this year.
In one case filed in April, Kaupu-Grace was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, theft from a person over 60 years old, first-degree identity theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
In another case filed in June, she was charged with second-degree identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, second-degree theft and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
Court records show she was placed on supervised release with conditions, including no contact with the alleged victims.
Hearings for those cases are scheduled on Dec. 17.
“As alleged, Kaupu-Grace stole money from residents who were simply trying to conduct financial transactions at their bank,” Attorney General Anne Lopez said. “We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard the public from corruption and financial exploitation.”
