Litter River apartment residents raise safety concerns
LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) - Residents at Summer Crest Apartments say they are living in hazardous conditions, with complaints ranging from flooding to mold growth to structural concerns.
Jennifer Lynn, who has lived at the complex for nearly a decade, said she fears for her safety.
“I’m terrified, I’m worried this building is going to collapse,” Lynn said.
She has been filing reports about health and safety issues with management since 2017, but has not seen results. She said maintenance crews perform minimal repairs that do not address underlying problems.
“They’ll come in and do the bare minimum, and that’s it I mean that’s it. When I told them my windows were leaking they literally put this like nasty orange caulking. Did that help, no they’re still leaking,” Lynn said.

Her apartment has flooded four times since she moved in. The carpets have not been replaced, leading to rotting wood underneath and mold formation, she said.
The conditions have reportedly caused her to develop asthma and other health problems that have affected her quality of life.
“What regular life? I’m isolated in my home because I have no energy, I have nothing anymore. They’ve literally sucked every bit of life out of me. I’m not good to get out of bed because of this. I don’t have a life anymore,” Lynn said.
The apartment complex did not respond to requests for comment.
Lynn said she hopes to continue advocating for residents in her community.
