1 dead after car ‘purposely’ set on fire in Horry County, report says
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man is dead after reports say a car was purposely set on fire in Horry County Saturday night.
Officers with the Horry County Police Department responded around 8:30 p.m. to the area near West Bear Grass Road and Bullock Trail in the Longs area to assist Horry County Fire Rescue with a car fire.
When officers arrived, the report says they determined the car was purposely set on fire.
According to the report, the witness who called the fire department said he heard a loud bang that he thought was a possible transformer explosion.
The witness then drove toward the electrical distribution plant on West Bear Grass when he saw the glow from the car fire, the report says.
The victim was found in the car by HCFR after extinguishing the fire, reports say.
Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 20-year-old Stoney Floyd Jr, of Loris.
Willard said Floyd was found in the backseat of the car and that his cause of death has not yet been determined. The death is being investigated as a homicide, Willard added.
