MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach man almost missed out on winning $75,000 after purchasing a lottery ticket.

Officials say the man decided to use leftover change from grocery shopping at the Food Lion on Dick Pond Road to buy a $3 lottery ticket.

“I was getting ready to throw it in the trash,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

He then decided to ask the clerk who sold him the ticket to take a second look and found out the ticket was worth $75,000.

The winner says he’s used his prize money to help his family, church, and others.

The odds of winning $75,000 playing Loteria are 1 in 660,000.

One top prize remains in this game.
