HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Documents obtained by WMBF News have identified a man now charged in a deadly Horry County shooting.

A police report lists 48-year-old Anthony Chiu as the suspect in an incident that happened Saturday on Bayview Drive in Green Sea.

Records show he was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday, charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The report states the Horry County Police Department was called to Bayview Drive after a reported shooting. An officer saw a witness on the phone pacing in the front yard before they went back inside.

The witness then made contact with police at a side door and led them to where the victim was. Police noted that they saw Chiu holding the victim, who was later identified as Charles Jones.

Chiu and the witness were both told to leave the home and wait outside as more law enforcement arrived at the scene. More details about what led to Chiu being taken into custody were not mentioned in the report.

Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Sunday that Jones was shot by Chiu after an argument. Jones also died at the scene.

“I’m sorry, I hate this for anybody,” said Cindy Suggs.

Suggs lives near the home where the shooting happened and says both men kept to themselves for the most part.

“My son had gone down there and talked to him because his dog got loose and went down there and but that was about a year ago,” said Suggs.

Another neighbor who declined to give his name told WMBF he knows both men and thinks the entire situation is “tragic.”

As of Monday afternoon, records show Chiu is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with no bond.
