Chants extend win streak to seven on day two of the I-75 invitational

ATLANTA, G.A. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina softball extended its win streak to seven games after defeating Kennesaw State 3-1 and Georgia Tech 4-3 on day two of the I-75 Invitational.

The home run theme continued, with the Chanticleers smashing four home runs that accounted for six of their seven runs.

Kennesaw State 1, Coastal Carolina 3

After three scoreless innings, Kennesaw State was first to get on the board when former Chanticleer Ava-Brooke Strickland hit a home run to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Coastal Carolina tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the fifth when pinch runner Ally Wojciechowski crossed home plate on a Kennesaw State error.

Delaney Keith and Keirstin Roose each hit solo home runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the 3-1 victory.

Abby Henderson recorded a career-high six strikeouts on her way to her third win in the circle, while Nicolette Picone picked up her third save of the season.

Georgia Tech 3, Coastal Carolina 4

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Alyssa Willer reached home on a CCU fielding error, giving Georgia Tech a 1-0 lead.

Keith responded in the top of the third, launching a three-run home run over right field to put the Chanticleers ahead 3-1.

Georgia Tech cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Grace Connolly hit a home run over left field.

The slugfest continued in the top of the seventh when Maddy Jennings smashed a solo home run to extend Coastal’s lead to 4-2.

GT added one more run on a Carolina Patterson RBI single to make it 4-3, but the comeback attempt fell short.

Picone pitched her fifth complete game of the season, securing her sixth win in the circle while recording three strikeouts.
