HCPD: Death investigation underway after body found in Longs area home
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - A death investigation has started in Horry County near the Longs area.
A spokesperson from the Horry County Police Department has confirmed to WMBF News that officers are investigating a death off of Moulton Drive.
This is in the Chestnut Estates community.
A man who didn’t want to use his name said he got home on Thursday and heard a smoke alarm coming from a home.
He said he didn’t see smoke so he went to a neighbor’s house to see if they knew of someone with a key who could check things out.
“They called the HOA president, which she called the fire department. When they went in to investigate, they found something in there,” the man said.
Horry County Police have not said what they found.
Neighbors told WMBF News on Saturday that no one consistently lives in the home.
They said the man they believe inherited the home occasionally shows up.
The man who spoke with WMBF News told us everyone looks out for one another.
He said he doesn’t believe this is a widespread issue
“I wouldn’t look at that and say it’s unsafe, it’s a very good neighborhood. Everybody checks up on their neighbors and takes care of everyone. It’s a really good neighborhood,” he said.
This is an active investigation and there is no risk to the community at this time.
No further information has been given at this time.
