(CNN) - Beachgoers in Mustang Island, Texas, which is located near Corpus Christi, are reporting something that looks alien.

Researchers have nicknamed the creatures “spaghetti monsters.”

The actual name for the animal that looks like an eyeball is Rhizophysa.

Each one is actually many animals. They’re similar to the Portuguese man-o-war, which is a colony of animals living together as one.

Like that fearsome ocean dweller, spaghetti monsters share similarities with true jellyfish. They have tentacles and can sting.

If one of the creatures is spotted, it’s best to admire it from a distance.
