FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The highly anticipated Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Florence officially opened Tuesday.
Raines Hospitality, the company who manages the hotel, broke ground on the $15 million project in the summer of 2017.
It’s one of two hotels in the heart of downtown Florence that officials said attest to the continued growth of the area.
“Six years ago it was said you’re never going to have a hotel in downtown Florence, but not only do we have one, we have two,” Ray Reich, Downtown Development Manager, said.
The towering, sleek designed hotel is a standout on the corner of South Dargan Street and East Evans Street. The facility has 103 rooms of a mix of king and double queen beds along with a few suites.
“With rooms come people and with people come wallets and with wallets come money,” Reich said.
Guests can enjoy a state of the art fitness room, pool, business area and 24/7 bar and restaurant, also opened to locals. The hotel is also a pet friendly.
The hotel’s general manager Faith Rogers said they already booked 10 rooms reserved for opening day.
“The whole team’s been working really hard just to get all the furniture in, everything cleaned up, we had Hyatt corporate come in,” Rogers said.
A Florence native herself, Rogers has seen first-hand the need for more hotels in the area situated between two major highways.
“Being with Raines Hospitality for 6 plus years, the growth that we’ve seen… we had 3 hotels when I started with the company now we have 15 plus,” Rogers said.
The company also manages the quaint Hotel Florence on West Evans Street and several hotels on Hospitality Boulevard.
Reich said the demand for another hotel came from visitors wanting more than just a place to lay their heads, they also wanted a chance to explore what the community has to offer.
“You got every night new people coming in, they got to have someplace to eat, after they get settled many will go out and walk around,” Reich said.
“It’s going to send business into all of the other businesses that are already here, the restaurants, the shops… I just think it’ll be a great addition,” Rogers said.
