GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - Three people were arrested in Georgetown County for Assault and Battery with Intent to Kill, Burglary 1st, and Kidnapping.
Georgetown County Sheriff's Office received a call around 9:30 a.m. Saturday to a Mini Mart parking lot for a possible hostage situation.
When Sheriff Deputies arrived they witnessed the alleged vehicle leaving the parking lot. Upon arrival the hostage in the passenger seat exited the vehicle screaming for help. The deputies apprehend the driver, Rondell Leon Carter, 30, who had brought the victim to the Mini Mart in order to cash a ransom check. The victim was able to tell the cashier to call authorities as he was being held hostage.
Sheriff Deputies then learned from the victim that his girlfriend and another woman were being held hostage by two other people at his house, and that his girlfriend had been shot in the leg last night. It is believed that the suspects entered the home Friday night around 10:00 p.m. and that the victims were met at gunpoint when they returned home around 11:30 p.m.
The Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded to the home finding the two female victims inside. After securely removing the victims from the house the SWAT team found suspects Matthew Ward Cobb, 18, and a juvenile, hiding in an upstairs bedroom. Along with Carter, all three are being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting charges and bond hearings.
