CCU student repping school colors in Darlington NASCAR race

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – A NASCAR driver will be revving up his engine in a car representing Coastal Carolina University at the Southern 500.

According to the CCU Facebook page, student Brandon Brown, 24, will be rounding the Darlington Raceway in the 86 car repping his school's colors with a scheme based on Dick Trickle's 1989 NASCAR rookie of the year season car.

According to Brown's website, he made his first NASCAR appearance in 2014 before being accepted to CCU in 2015 as a business major.

CCU quickly became a full-time partner with Brandonbilt Motorsports in support of Brown.

WMBF spoke with Brown in February before he appeared in the Daytona 500 and he said that at the end of the day he prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

"I usually try to be more of a student at school and just kind of blend in with everybody rather than try to stand out as somebody like a celebrity figure I guess you would say," Brown said.

The Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 will start at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
