MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - It's a card many people have tucked in their wallet, but it's not getting much use if it just sits there. Deal Diva, Christel Bell, shows you how you can make the most of your AAA membership.
It's most known for providing roadside assistance, but a American Automobile Association or AAA membership buys a lot more. But the next time you're out, asking if businesses offer a AAA discount might save you a few bucks.
Charles Monheim, with the Myrtle Beach office of AAA, says many people don't realize how far or how many places you can use your card for a discount.
"There's so many out there we always recommend members to go online Carolinas.com and actually bring up the national discounts," said Monheim.
Monheim also says many people just think AAA provides roadside assistance, but he says their are different level memberships that give access to thousands of national and local deals and discounts -- enough to make your yearly investments worthwhile.
On the website, there are thousand of retail discounts and deals. For example, members can show their card at Lowe's Home Improvement to receive up to 40% off home appliances, it's up to 40% off home decor at Home Depot.
For restaurant dining, places like Hard Rock Cafe offer 10% off for food and non-alcoholic drinks. Dave and Buster's will offer 10% off your total bill, and when you order from Papa John's pizza, it's up to 25% off regular menu-priced items.
There's even a few deals for your furry loved ones. AAA members can look forward to up to 20% off select brands of travel products, medications, insurance and even pet food at retailers like PetCo.
Monheim says the discounts also include local restaurants, retailers and attractions.
"We just recently added a California Dreaming franchises and they offer with the purchase of buying an entree they offer a free appetizer," said Monheim. "A lot of discounts are anywhere from 10% up to 25% so it can be meaningful here, locally in the Myrtle Beach area we have the 'Show your Card' program and save plan, attractions, and entertainment."
Monheim says it's a card you should never leave home without. "Rule of thumb, is always carry your card, when you are going into a vendor or a show anywhere you're going to, just pull your card out and do they offer a AAA discount," said Monheim.
