CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The City of Conway has partnered with the Conway Chamber of Commerce to launch a new Economic Development Initiative and website.
The city of Conway is growing and the Conway Chamber believes more businesses in the area should reflect the city growth. The Conway Chamber of Commerce launched a new economic development initiative they hope will attract more business to the area.
A new website launched March 6, is designed to help new and existing businesses in Conway. Devin Parks, works with Economic Development for the Conway Chamber of Commerce, explains the goals for the website, www.conwayscnow.com.
"The goal for this new website is to serve as a tool for those interested in starting a business in Conway or expanding a current business in Conway," said Parks.
But Parks says the ultimate goal is bring business to Conway. Parks says he created the website that provides a break down of existing businesses. Parks says they hired a company in Silicon Valley, California, called GIS Planning to construct all the data used for the site.
Parks says the data on the site, will be constantly updated, reflecting new and existing businesses in the Conway area, he says the information is update for businesses to look at possible locations to open a business, what other retailers are in that area. The information tracks spending trends, demographics, and the information is customizable.
Parks adds, " Your location is critical, so from a small business standpoint you need to know what's being spent in the area." According to the Conway SC Now website, the population for Conway is just over 25,000, and he says that number makes the area look a lot more attractive to potential businesses.
Parks says the website will also help existing businesses better understand how and potentially where they can expand their business in the city.
As part of the economic development initiative, the chamber also hired a company called Retail Strategies, based out of Alabama. Parks says the company will help put Conway's name out there to attract more retailers. The company is expected to contact at least 30 retailers, restaurants, brokers, or developers each year, promoting the city of Conway.
"They get out there and recruit the companies we may not necessarily have access to," Parks explained. Retail Strategies is expected to present a national chain prospect list for the city within the next two to three months.
Another phase of the initiative includes targeting the areas of the city that are ready for redevelopment.
This is not all a focus on just downtown, this is Conway as a whole and really to focus on gateway corridors, areas of high traffic, and just really putting the right businesses in place, because the city is growing it is and its going to regardless but we want make sure we have the right businesses, " Parks said.
