NMB Fire Rescue respond to boat explosion at Harbourgate Marina

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue responded to Harbourgate Marina just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 for a reported boat explosion.

According to NMB Fire Rescue Facebook page, crews learned that a boat had docked at Harbourgate Marina to refuel.

After refueling and preparing to leave, a flash fire started in the engine.

The extinguishing system activated in the engine compartment and extinguished any fire that was present, the post states.

There wasn't an active fire and HCFR Medics treated boaters for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Facebook post.

The boat suffered some damages, but there weren't any impacts to the Harbourgate Marina or the ICW from the incident.

SCDNR was notified and responded to the incident as well.
