1 person extricated after collision with 18-wheeler near Florence

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person was extricated with the Jaws of Life after an collision between an 18-wheeler and a sedan just outside of Florence city limits Friday morning, according to officials.

At about 8:06 a.m., the West Florence Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of Alligator Road at Knollwood Road, stated Captain Anthony Fox. Firefighters found one person trapped inside a sedan that had collided with an 18-wheeler.

The victim was extricated by firefighters in about 10 minutes with a Jaws of Life. Two patients were transported to a nearby hospital, Captain Fox said.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office and the Florence Police Department were on scene assisting with traffic control.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.
