DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Fifteen students and a bus driver are safe after a Darlington County school bus caught fire Wednesday afternoon, according to Christopher McKagen, Darlington County School District Communications Specialist.
All 15 students from Darlington High School and Darlington Middle School and the driver were evacuated without harm, according to the DCSD Facebook page.
The Darlington County School District commended the driver for making sure all the students got out of the bus safely.
DCSD PIO Audrey Childers said the district periodically conducts evacuation drills to safeguard drivers and students on how to handle emergency situations like this.
All of the students were transported home safely.
What started the fire is unknown and is still being investigated.
