Missing UNCP student found dead in Costa Rica

PEMBROKE, NC (WMBF) – The University of North Carolina at Pembroke was notified by the United States Embassy in Costa Rica on Friday that the body of Deon Greene was recovered, according to a news release from UNCP.

Greene, who was a junior at UNC Pembroke studying abroad at the National University of Costa Rica in Heredia, had been missing since Tuesday.

UNCP Chancellor Robin Cummings went to Rocky Mount on Friday to express condolences to Greene's family on behalf of the university, the release states.

According to the release, the Counseling and Psychological Services department is available to the campus community to assist during this difficult time. For more information, visit www.uncp.edu/CAPS.

UNC Pembroke says it will continue to update the community as Deon, his family and friends remain in their thoughts.
