NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – From Myrtle Manor to Hotel Impossible, the Grand Strand has seen its share of space on the small screen. Now, another reality show will air to highlight the area.
On January 1, a local Realtor will ring in the New Year while watching television with his family. However, this won't be any typical television viewing in the Moore household.
"I had no idea how it was going to work; it was an interesting experience," shared Jason Moore, a Realtor with the Hoffman Group. As the on-site agent at the Avista Resort in North Myrtle Beach, Moore is used to working as an oceanfront property specialist.
But one sale this summer was unlike any other he has had.
He was contacted to take part in the filming for HGTV's Beachfront Bargain Hunt. The channel's website titles the episode "Battling Budgets in North Myrtle Beach."
It describes the show as, "Vinny and Frenia agree on the idea of a vacation home in North Myrtle Beach, but they are finding out that their differing budgets may come between them. They have enlisted the help of real estate agent, Jason Moore, to play referee between Frenia's urge to splurge at $250,000 and Vinny's more conservative outlook of $185,000."
Without giving away the ending, Moore gave some insight into the experience.
"It is unscripted. So, pretty much they say, 'You know what to say.' There is a lot involved with it. I had no idea for a quick episode like that," said Moore. He explained filming took 10 hours a day for a four-day period.
When he told his young kids he was going to be on TV, they were thrilled.
"We'll watch it with the family, get a couple laughs out of it," Moore joked. He has never seen the final cut of the show, when it airs on January 1, it will be the first time he will the finished product.
Working in an industry dependent on referrals, Moore is excited to see the impact the show will have on business, but also on his neighborhood.
"Not only for the properties we filmed but for the community and the area in general as well," said Moore.
The episode is set to air on January 1 at 1:30 p.m. on HGTV.
