A vintage aircraft flew along South Carolina's coast in a patriotic salute to service men and women.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The 2014 Salute from the Shore flyover returned to the Myrtle Beach area for the fifth year.

On Friday, July 4, at 1 p.m., the aircraft began at Cherry Grove Pier and flew along South Carolina's coast in a patriotic salute to men and women of the Armed Forces.

"When I look down, I'm reminded of the time I served to protect the men and women to make this country great," said 1st Lieutenant Alvin Strasburger in a "thank you" YouTube video that came out Monday.

Salute from the Shore is designed to be a celebration to show appreciation for veterans who have served the country over the years. Harrison Saunders faithfully participates in the observance and he said that, "It allows us to just say thank you".
