MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - According to the American Heart Association, National Walking Day is Wednesday, April 2.
The organization designated the day as a nationwide call-to-action for Americans to become more physically active and raise awareness around its importance.
Calls to Action:
- Sign up to participate in National Walking Day (as an individual, school, community, organization or company) at heart.org/NationalWalkingDay
- Wear red shoelaces on National Walking Day (and whenever you exercise) to remind yourself of the benefits of exercise.
- Show how you are "lacing up" for your heart and brain health by posting a picture of your red laces in action with the hashtag #AHALaceup to your social media accounts.
Physical inactivity has a detrimental effect on your health. Studies have shown that inactive people can double their risk of heart disease.
The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity weekly for adults and 60 minutes a day for kids.
