CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Events at the Peanut Warehouse and several other properties in the historic district of Downtown Conway and along the River Front have been canceled after an outside firm conducted a safety inspection there.

According to Debbi Burroughs, Vice President of the Burroughs Company, based on the findings of the firm, a recommendation was made to the company's board that a structural engineer should evaluate the structural integrity of the Sidewheeler, Peanut Warehouse, Lower River Warehouse, and Tractor Shed.

In the interests of safety, the Burroughs Company has decided to cancel all events at these locations through the end of April, Burroughs confirmed. Everyone who has registered an event will be contacted with further information.

"We do not want to take any chances with people's safety," Burroughs said. "We regret any inconvenience this may cause our patrons and to people of Conway, however safety is our chief concern."

The Peanut Warehouse is one of several historic warehouses located along the Waccamaw Riverfront, and is a popular venue for weddings, receptions, and other events. The name comes from when boiled peanuts were popular in the Conway area in the early 1900s. The Peanut Warehouse and the other historic buildings are typically booked months in advance.
