ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - Four sexual assault cases have been reported in a small town within seven days. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office have now arrested two men in these cases, and are continuing to investigate.
One of those attacks happened on Lariat Court, the victim a 17-year-old girl, according to Major Anthony Thompson with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office. In a community with teenage girls, the news is shocking to those living there.
"I thank you for informing me because I can help my household. I can explain this is why we don't let you do this; this is why we need to know where you are, because things like this happen," expressed Ciara Hunt, shocked to hear about the assault happening right down the road from her family's house.
That incident was the latest in a string of attacks, said Major Thompson.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office has four reported cases in the Parkton area from December 4 to December 11. Major Thompson confirms at least four women have been sexually assaulted while another handful of victims were assaulted during the attacks.
A press release from the sheriff's office details that the victims in these attacks are not from the Parkton area. The women were targeted on social media site backpage.com, and asked to meet someone on Lariat Court in Parkton. From there, the women were taken into the woods where the assaults occurred.
Major Anthony Thompson confirms 31-year-old Alfonso Luis Chacon was arrested in connection to one of the assaults while the others remain under investigation.
Alfonso Chacon is charged with first-degree rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree sexual offense, assault on a female, and felony conspiracy.
He is being held in the Robeson County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The sheriff's office said more arrests are expected.
On December 19, the Robeson County Major Crimes Division arrested 27-year-old Shawn Pierre Chacon, of Parkton, in connection to these crimes.
Shawn Chacon, who sheriff's officials confirmed is Alfonso's brother, was charged with: first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon - serious injury, larceny of motor vehicle, first-degree sexual offense, felony conspiracy, and second-degree sexual offense.
He was booked in the Robeson County Detention Center and placed under a $1,000,000 bond.
These cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Major Anthony Thompson at 910-671-3189, or after hours, call 910-671-3100.
