ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A former fire chief in North Carolina has been indicted on embezzlement and felony larceny charges.

Bruce Sampson, 39, of Lumberton, NC served as the fire chief for the Deep Branch Volunteer Fire Department.

On Nov. 4, he was indicted for embezzlement for an incident in June 2007 and felony larceny for an incident in December 2009. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office claims Sampson was the fire chief when these alleged crimes were committed, but he has not worked there in several years.

Sampson turned himself in to the sheriff's office on Tuesday, Dec. 3. He will have a bond hearing before a Superior Court Judge on Dec. 9.

According to the Associated Press, the State Bureau of Investigation has been working on the case since August. The indictments show at least $100,000 was taken.
