MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach residents may notice fighter jets in the sky Tuesday as part of a defense exercise being conducted by the South Carolina Air National Guard (SCANG).
The routine exercise will feature jets from the 169th Fighter Wing escorting a single-engine aircraft from the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
"Such exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure the rapid response capability associated with the SCANG's Aerospace Control Alert mission," SCANG representatives stated in a news release. "The McEntire unit is a critical component of the strategic force that is poised 24/7 to respond to airborne threats over the United States."
