MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Beginning Tuesday, it is illegal to burn leaves, grass or any other type of yard waste outside, within Myrtle Beach city-limits.

It was already against the law to burn garbage within city-limits, but Council members say yard waste has now been added to that list to cut down the risk of fires. In addition, firefighters are often called to reports of open-burning, which takes them away if there is an actual emergency.

"Look how the wind's been blowing lately," said Mayor John Rhodes. "We don't need somebody out burning leaves or some trash and all of a sudden the wind catches it and sets something on fire. It could cost somebody. Bag it, we'll pick it up.

Burning in a fire pit is still allowed.
