Waccamaw Community Hospital recognizes National Blood Donor Month

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) As the New Year approaches some of you may be thinking of a new year's resolution. If you are looking for ways to give back in 2013 and want to help the community, taking part in National Blood Donor Month may be the perfect way to get started.

"It's a time when blood organizations like the American Red Cross pay tribute to the nearly 11 million people who give blood each year, and encourage others to start the New Year off right by coming to give the gift of life," according to the American Red Cross.

January has been recognized as National Blood Donor Month since 1970, according to the American Red Cross. The Waccamaw Community Hospital is holding a blood drive on January 4 at the Wachesaw Conference Center to participate in the month's focus.

Donors can give blood from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in conference rooms 1A and 1B. Anyone wishing to give blood must have a valid ID, must be at least 17 years old and weigh no less than 110 pounds.

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments will be priority. To make an appointment call 652-1135 or register online at www.redcrossblood.org with the sponsor code "WaccamawHosp".

Wachesaw Conference Center is located at 4387 Riverwood Drive in Murrells Inlet, across the street from Waccamaw Community Hospital.
