Leaders hope hotel will bring life to downtown Lake City

LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - An announcement made in Lake City Wednesday afternoon could help renew the downtown area.

Mayor Lovith Anderson, the city council and Florence County government officials met with community leaders and private developers at the Village Green at Town Square to unveil the efforts to rejuvenate the town.

"It's going to be an ideal facility," said Mayor Anderson, praising the project developers. "It looks great. These guys have done this before and they do a great job."

When the sheet was pulled town, it revealed the prototype for a 57 room boutique hotel, presented to those attending the announcement by Lake City native Darla Moore.

Being constructed by Firetower Developers, the Inn at the Crossroads will be built from the ground up to incorporate two old storefronts and the town stables.

"It's a $10 million project," said Firetower Developers' Grey Raines. "There's a lot of people who will be here building it for the next year. We're excited about that."

Once the hotel is completed, Raines says the facility will hire about 50 people to maintain and run the hotel.
