SCHP investigates fatal crash in Georgetown County

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One person is dead after their car ran into a ditch in Georgetown County Monday afternoon.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, tells WMBF News that the one vehicle collision occurred at 2:45 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of SC 41 and US Highway 17 A about nine miles south of Andrews.

The 2002 Kia was traveling north on SC 41 and ran off the road striking a ditch. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died in the collision.

The passenger, a 91-year-old male from Lake City, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released. The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
