Family mourns Green Sea man killed in motorcycle crash
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person is dead after a motorcycle collision on Airport Road in the Loris area of Horry County.
Lance Corporal Judd Jones, spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol, say the collision occurred on Airport Road near the intersection with US 701 in Loris around 7:34 p.m. Wednesday night.
The driver of the 2007 motorcycle was traveling north on Airport Road when the bike veered left and ran into a ditch.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and it's unclear if he was wearing a helmet, Jones said.
Horry County Deputy Coroner, Tony Hendrick has identified the victim as 38-year-old Thaddeus Anthony Moore from Green Sea.
A group of Moore's family and close friends picked through debris on the side of Airport Road Thursday night, searching for his wallet and anything else they could find.
James Moore, uncle to the victim, says he leaves behind a wife and three children.
"He was a loving, fine young man," James Moore said. "Caring, outgoing, obedient, capable,, honest, he was just a fine young man."
Family friend Elnetha Fray says she worries Airport Road is unsafe.
"This road, I would call it very dangerous," Fray said. "I really believe this road needs to be controlled a little better, a lot more than it is."
Back in July of 2011, another motorcyclist, 29-year-old Marine Jeffrey Bennett died on Airport Road when his motorcycle veered off the road and into a tree. Bennett was not wearing a helmet, and Moore's family says he was not wearing on either.
