CAROLINA FOREST, SC (WMBF) - SCFC personnel are reporting that they have contained the small brush fire in the Waterford Plantation subdivision of Carolina Forest that started Saturday.
Scott Hawkins, spokesman for the South Carolina Forestry Commission, says the three acre fire has been contained behind fire breaks as SCFC units on the scene monitor the fire and work to limit smoke production.
Hawkins says that rather than this being a "flaming" brush fire, this is what they call a "smoke producing" brush fire because right now it is smoldering. Horry County Fire Rescue has also been on scene when needed to assist in keeping the fire under control.
The fire is still under investigation, but SCFC says it's likely fireworks started the fire
As the Fourth of July approaches, Hawkins says its important to remember that even if it's legal to shoot off fireworks in your community, you can still face criminal charges if the fireworks you shoot off start a brush fire and damage the land of another person.
