MI first responder booked on DUI charges

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - A paramedic and lieutenant for Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Rescue is facing charges for driving under the influence.

An anonymous mobile reader tip alerted WMBF News that an employee with the fire department, Charles "Chuck" Petrella, had been arrested on DUI charges.

Fire Chief Norman Knight confirmed that Chuck Petrella is a lieutenant and paramedic currently employed by Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire Rescue.

Knight added that the matter is being dealt with personally. It is unknown if any disciplinary action will be brought against Petrella.

Horry County Police say the South Carolina Highway Patrol made the arrest, and details of the arrest have not been released.

Booking records for J. Reuben Long Detention Center show Petrella taken into custody on Monday around 2 p.m. and was given a $1,000 bond.
