ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) After months of controversy, Retha Pierce has been ousted of the Atlantic Beach Mayoral seat and Jake Evans has been voted in.

The Atlantic Beach precinct reports voters chose Evans as their new leader after a preliminary count.

Thursday morning's official count determined Evans to be the winner, despite several challenged votes.

Evans ran against Incumbent Retha Pierce and Windy Price.

"They're not slaves, they're not supposed to be treated in that way," said current Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce after claiming she had been blocked from visiting supporters who live in property owned by her challenger's family.

Atlantic Beach also voted on two council seats which went to Josephine Isom and Charlene Taylor.

Isom and Taylor were voted in after running against three other candidates, namely: Misty Umphries, James B. Van Fleet, and Monique Pointers.
