Vehicle fire causes traffic tie ups on Highway 17 Bypass

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Traffic along Highway 17 Bypass is moving again Tuesday afternoon following a car catching fire as it sat at a red light.

Capt. David Knipes, spokesman for the Myrtle Beach Police Department, said the incident occurred near Pine Island Road and Highway 17 Bypass around 3:45 p.m.

Fire crews extinguished the fire not long after it caught.

Traffic along Highway 17 Bypass heading southbound continued to move slowly, all motorists were asked to use caution in the area or avoid it if possible.

Any traffic attempting to turn left onto Pine Island Road from Highway 17 were not be able to do so and alternate routes had to be taken.

No one was injured in the incident and the fire remains under investigation.
