MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – According to a city spokesman, and the project's architect, a new shopping center will soon debut along the Myrtle Beach boardwalk.
Construction is happening now on the empty lot near 8th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach across from Club Exception.
WMBF News found out the building will have space for multiple restaurants and shops, but right now none of the spaces are confirmed to be occupied.
Tourists say the new retail space is exactly what the area needs.
"Especially when you're walking up and down the aisles with the boardwalk, we noticed that further down there's really not a lot here," said Greg Duff of Richmond.
Business owners along the boardwalk agree, the more the merrier.
"The more business there is down there the more people it's going to bring to the area," said Marvin McHone, who owns Marvin's Food and Games along the oceanfront. He's also involved with the Oceanfront Merchants Association.
McHone says with the business he's done since the boardwalk debuted, it's a no brainer companies are willing to invest in the area.
Contractors say the project should be finished construction within the next month, but it's unclear when any business would move in.
The shopping center is the newest construction along the boardwalk since the SkyWheel's debut.
