FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man wanted by the Florence County Sheriff's Office on a charge of committing a lewd act upon a minor has been taken into custody in FL.
Capt. Mike Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said Harvey Legrand Cox, 58, of Florence, was taken into custody around noon Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Marion County, FL Sheriff's Office in Silver Springs, FL.
In January, officials with the U.S. Coast Guard and the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing boater in Murrells Inlet. Upon further investigation, officials learned Cox had taken a taxi from the Murrells Inlet area the night after he went missing.
The FCSO issued an arrest warrant for Cox on allegations he committed lewd acts upon a 10-year-old female victim between July 2008 and January 2011.
Nunn said the Florence County Sheriff's Office will attempt to extradite Cox to face the pending charges.
