DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Will Lampkin, former head football coach for Kingstree High School, has been named the new Head Football Coach and physical education teacher at Darlington High School.

"Having worked with Coach Lampkin before, I know he is a man that can bring a new direction and vitality to our program," said Dr. Greg Harrison, principal of Darlington High School.  "I believe his experience and his outlook will help us transition from a football team to a powerhouse football program."

During his coaching tenure, Lampkin has coached basketball, track and football. He has served as quarterback and running back coach for Berkley High School; quarterback coach at Stratford High School, and head football coach and athletic director at Kingstree High School.  He helped Berkley High and Stratford High bring home state championships in 1996 and 1999 respectively.

This year, Coach Lampkin was the defensive coordinator at Ridgeland High School. Ridgeland finished the season with their best record in ten years before ending the season in the second round of the playoffs. During a seven-game winning streak, Coach Lampkin's first team defense gave up an average of only nine points per game.

A fifteen-year teaching veteran, Lampkin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and a masters of arts in teaching from Winthrop University. Lampkin is a member of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association (SCACA), the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA), and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

The Darlington County Board of Education approved Lampkin's hiring at the January 24 Board of Education meeting.
