DCSO deputy involved in high speed chase

Darlington County, SC - DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person has been arrested after a high speed chase involving a Darlington County Sheriff's deputy Sunday night, while the driver involved in the incident is still on the run.
Capt. Andy Locklair, spokesman for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, said a Be on the Lookout was issued following two robberies in the Florence Co. area Sunday night.
Major Carlos Raines, spokesman for the Florence Police Department, said one of the robberies occurred at the Kangaroo on Second Loop Road just after 10 p.m.
Lockair said deputies with the DCSO then made their way to the county line to see if any convenience stores in the area had experienced problems.
While there, a deputy spotted a black Ford Explorer fitting the description of the vehicle driven by the Florence robbery suspects. When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Explorer, the driver did not stop.
A high speed chase ensued into the City of Darlington, with speeds reaching up to 80 miles per hour. The driver later turned on to Kirvin Street, where the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran.
The passenger, however, stayed inside the vehicle and was arrested. It is unknown at this time what charges they are facing or their identity.
Authorities attempted to locate the driver Sunday night, but were unsuccessful. They are now investigating to see if the driver and the passenger were indeed the suspects involved in the earlier robberies.
Locklair said at this time, however, there is no active search for the driver.
All incidents are still under investigation at this time. WMBF News will provide further details as they become available.
