Florence County, SC - Driver faces DUI charges after crash on Christmas Day
FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Lake City man is charged with drinking under the influence after he crashed his car on Christmas.
Jamie Green, 34, was behind the wheel when his car crashed, resulting in the death of two passengers a Highway Patrol official said. He is accused of driving under the influence and was taken to the Florence County Detention center Saturday afternoon.
Green faces two counts of driving under the influence resulting in death, on count of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily harm, and one count of driving with a suspended license.
"It was surprising to us because, I mean, he's good person," Tornella Boston admitted. She is a longtime friend of Green's and several of the passengers in the car. "We've never known him to just drink and drive,"
Green and four passengers were headed westbound on Shirley Road, also known as Secondary 1064, early Christmas morning. Green's 2002 Chevrolet SUV veered off of the right side of the road around 3:25 am, as reported by Highway Patrol.
"I'm not angry with him. And I'm not angry with his family, because my husband's in a better place now," Mary McFadden said. The Florence County Coroner's office identified her husband, Brett D. McFadden, 48, as one of the two victims.
The second victim was Melissa B. Harold, 27, of Olanta, who later died at a Florence hospital.
Alfonso Lorenzo Harold, 33, from Olanta was taken to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center by air ambulance. Catherine Fullmore, 39, of Lake City was taken to McLeod Hospital.
"Accidents happen, and it wasn't intentional. I know that wasn't intentional because he's not that type of person," Boston asserted. A judge set Green's bond at $51,000.
"I hope they let him come home... because he's suffered enough."
Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the accident.
