Sanford talks economy in Marion Co.

Marion, SC - MARION, SC (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is on the road with the economy on his agenda.

The governor on Tuesday visits Marion County in the northeastern corner of the state where the jobless rate of 22.7 percent is the highest in the state. He's visiting with the local economic development commission and discussing efforts to attract investment.

Marion County has been hit hard with job losses in the past decade.

A Russell Stover Candies factory closed almost nine years ago throwing 836 people out of work at once. There have also been closings of textile plants in the intervening years that have put hundreds out of work.

Also this week, Sanford attends grand openings of businesses in Lake City and Lexington.
