3D architecture comes to life with new Google software
(NBC) - If you're not yet ready for a real career in construction, you can give your inner architect a virtual go with a new piece of software from Google.
It's called Building Maker, the newest part of Google Earth, aimed at bringing the art of 3D building design to the masses.
"That's the goal of Building Maker, to make it more possible for the mortal to make 3D models. You used to have to be an expert," says Google spokesman Tilman Reinhardt.
You can even get specific. San Francisco, for example, is one of the cities that Building Maker lets you make over. Add new buildings, re-furbish old ones, you can personalize your design and add a high tech touch to your hometown.
"You should see your house, hopefully, in the imagery we provide, and then you can go model it or a different building and create it in a matter of minutes," Reinhardt says.
It's a potential win-win situation. Google helps its users navigate the fountainhead of virtual architecture. Its users, in return, help update Google Earth.
"We see people want to create. You feel part of it when you create," says Reinhardt.
So log on, create, and rebuild your town.
