Man accused of running from police after shooting in Florence

A man is facing charges after police say he ran from officers after a Sunday shooting in Florence.

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A man is facing charges after police say he ran from officers after a Sunday shooting in Florence.

Officers with the Florence Police Department arrested Andre Thomas, 39, of Florence, on Monday.

Thomas is being charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony, discharging a firearm within city limits and resisting arrest.

These charges come after officers were dispatched to Stackley Street on Sunday regarding shots fired, where Thomas allegedly threatened victims during an argument and shot into the ground outside a home.

According to police, officers later located Thomas on Monday on Commander Street, where he attempted to run away before being captured by police after a brief pursuit.

When Thomas was captured, police say a pistol was recovered. According to police, Thomas is prohibited from carrying a gun due to prior felony convictions.

Thomas is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
