MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - New documents WMBF News received are giving more details on the arrest of a man charged with firing shots right after a deadly officer-involved shooting in Myrtle Beach.

An affidavit states that on April 26, officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to a shot spotter gun detection alert in the area of the Pavilion Lot by 8th Avenue North and North Ocean Boulevard. Officers said they found three casings next to the sidewalk.

After reviewing city cameras, police said they saw the suspect, identified later as 18-year-old Jawarran Bethea, walking south on the west side of North Ocean Boulevard.

According to the affidavit, Bethea continues walking with a group, then quickly faces north, firing three shots into a large group of people before running south from the area.

But officers said that the cameras kept tracking Bethea in the area of Ocean Boulevard, and then private cameras at the Red Shot Shoppe picked up on him, which is a block away from the shooting.

Police said they used the available videos and images to create a be on the lookout for the suspect and sent it to multiple agencies, including the Laurinburg Police Department, which identified Bethea.

Authorities booked Bethea on Monday at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center under a $20,000 bond.

He is charged with first-degree assault and battery.

Moments before the shots Bethea allegedly fired, Officer Brandon O’Rourke shot and killed 18-year-old Jerrius Davis on Ocean Boulevard. Police said that Davis was actively shooting into a crowd of people before O’Rourke fired.
