MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Dozens of customers claim a Myrtle Beach mechanic misled them out of hundreds of dollars of car repairs. It’s a discovery that’s leaving customers and their pockets running empty.
“We were just trying to get our car back up and running,” said Jennifer Bentley.
Jennifer said on Friday she and her husband called Mister and Mrs Mobile Mechanic to come look at their car.
“I started looking at a list of mobile mechanics and calling them, and they were the first to come up,” said Jennifer.
Jennifer said everything seemed normal at first but claims the mechanic then charged them hundreds of dollars, left without repairing their car, and repeatedly dodged their phone calls.
After allegedly being ghosted, Jennifer said she decided to do some more research into Mister and Mrs Mechanic. That’s when she discovered dozens of poor reviews with fellow clients sharing stores strikingly similar to hers.
“All together, he got about $400 out of us,” said Codi Bentley, Jennifer’s husband.
WMBF News brought some of the written concerns to the company, which confirms it does charge a $150 diagnostic fee before its crews complete any work.
As for the missed calls from customers, the business said they serve so many customers that their phones often run out of battery. It’s an explanation that doesn’t bring solace to the Bentley family.
“Excuses. It’s all excuses,” said Jennifer Bentley.
WMBF News visited Mister and Mrs Mechanic’s physical location, but their listed address on Google instead took crews to the Riptide Beach Club Hotel on North Ocean Boulevard.
The business location is proving to be all the more concerning for the Bentleys who now hope their story keeps other folks out of their shoes.
“As already struggling parents trying to keep everything moving because of this incident, it felt more like an attack on us,” said Codi.
“I’m not the only one this is happening to. There’s a bunch of bad reviews, and maybe something needs to be done about this,” said Jennifer.
Mister and Mrs Mechanic continue to deny any wrongdoing but have yet to comment on the Bentleys’ specific case.
