Body of missing boater in Georgetown County recovered

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The body of a boater reported missing Saturday afternoon in the Pawleys Island area has been recovered.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that dive team members with Horry County Fire Rescue found a man’s body near the Hagley Boat Landing.

Georgetown County Emergency Management Director Brandon Ellis confirmed to WMBF News the body recovered was the missing boater.

Agencies were first called out to the landing around 4:24 p.m. for the missing boater.

People in the water noticed an unoccupied boat, prompting the search, Ellis said.

The Midway Fire Rescue, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources all responded.

SCDNR later said that according to initial information, the man was docking his boat when he fell overboard and didn’t come back up.

The name of the boater has not yet been released.
