3 arrested after shooting in Robeson County injures mother and child

RED SPRINGS, N.C, (WMBF) - Three people were arrested after a Tuesday shooting that left a mother and her child injured in Red Springs.

Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded on Tuesday for several people discharging firearms in the area of New Mexico Drive in Red Springs.

When deputies arrived they found one female and her two-year-old child suffering from injuries as a result of their home being shot into.

A third person was determined to be a suspect was also hurt during the shooting.

The female and child were not involved in the argument between the two groups.

During the investigation and searches of the two homes, several firearms were located and taken.

Nichole Oxendine a 40-year-old of Lumberton was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly intent to kill, two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property, and felony conspiracy.

Elijah Chandler an 18-year-old of Red Springs was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen firearm, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Oxendine and Chandler are currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.

A 16-year-old was also arrested and charged with breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony conspiracy, felony possession of stolen property, and possession of a stolen firearm.

The 16-year-old is being held at the Cumberland Regional Juvenile Detention Center without bond.

Deputies say more charges are likely as the investigation into this case and other shootings are happening.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile and Criminal Investigations Divisions are investigating.
